i51 qualifiers won by Perfectly Flawed

This week saw the Razer Online qualifiers for 5 tickets to i51 this coming April.  Perfectly Flawed took home the tickets but after their opponents in the final, Unicorns of Love, were disqualified due to using a different player on one of their accounts which is against the rules. But not to discredit Perfectly Flawed they did take down some big teams before the final such as FM! eSports and the winners of the McM Birmingham tournament Orbit LoL.

Dota 2

Dwayne 'The John' Rockson take the UKDota.net and Gamdias Spring #2 open

The guys on Dwayne 'The John' Rockson are looking unstoppable as they take another tournament. They take the £125 prize pool and without dropping a map the whole tournament. With the team taking the i51 qualifiers we will see at the Ricoh Arena later in April if anyone can topple these guys.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

Team Infused changing up their rosters ahead of i51

Unfortunately two of the members of Team Infused had to depart for various reasons but they were not slow in finding replacement. Firstly they added swedish player 'Robin' to the team and also added former team mate 'Spudz'. They are now training hard for the up coming tournament at i51 and we will see how the teams perform there.

Call of Duty

CoD Champs results

The UK had four teams at the years biggest Call of Duty tournament with high expectations from TCM Gaming and Epsilon. Only the top 2 from each group advanced and unfortunately for TEC and Orbit that couldn't be achieved but TCM Gaming came second and Epsilong topped their group. TCM Gaming lost to the eventual winners complexity in the first round with Epsilon losing to Faze in the second. Both teams have now dropped into the loser brackets. TCM in the second round of the LB lost to Rise Nation while Epsilon lost out to the eventual 2nd place enVyUs. Unfortunately both teams ended one place outside of the money but you did the UK proud guys!

Orbit win McM eSports Birmingham LoL tournament

McM eSports third event took place in Birmingham and boasted a prize pool of €1000 with €500 going to first place. Orbit took down both Infused and fm! eSports in the two online rounds to earn their spot in the offline semis/finals. They took on Kawaii Gaming Girls which includes two players from Oh My Gosh which won the UK Black Monster Cup qualifiers. Orbit took the game in 40 mins with 22 kills to KGG's 7. The other finalist were Jonjo who defeated Uncrowned Kings in their semi-final match. Orbit took the first games in a mere 26 mins having a 14k gold lead. Orbit stormed through the second game in only 18 mins with 20 kills to KGG's 5. GG to all teams involved.

Dota 2

Dwayne 'The John' Rockson win the ASUS ROG i51 qualifiers

The winners of ESL UK Dota 2 challenge back in February have proved once again how they strong they. They won themselves tickets to the next iseries event in April at its new home in Coventry. They once again to proved to be better then Reason, Rasta and Team Infused. Hopefully all these teams will be able to make it to i51 and make the ASUS ROG Dota 2 tournament one of the best yet for Dota.

UKDota and Gamdias to host Spring Open #2

With an impressive turnout of 13 teams to the first Spring Open Gamdias and UKDota have partnered up again to put on another tournament. Dwayne 'The John' Rockson took home the last tournament and will be looking to take this one too but will anyone be able to stop their dominating streak? Find out when the tournament commences this Saturday.

Battlefield 4

ESLUK/Razer Battlefield 4 Open Week #3

This week saw the third week in ESL UK's 6 week series with another £100 up for grabs. Unfortunately this week only 3 teams turned out but never the less the show must go on. As last week winners Team Infused got a BYE to the winners bracket finals whereas talkGEEK played Team ReZurrection in the semi-finals. talkGEEK took the game but then lost the Team Infused in the winner bracket finals. So once again talkGEEK played ReZurrection and once again talkGEEK prevailed. Team Infused played talkGEEK in the finals and Team Infused were just too strong and took week 3 and the £100. GG to all teams.

Orbit only needed two of the three games in the final to win the match and the tournament both in quite convincing style.

Also with this tournament wrapping up McM eSports have already announced their next tournament that will be in Dublin so watch out for more news with that tournament.

The newly formed FM RaiderZ came through not dropping a game in the group stages and then went through the elimination brackets only losing two games. They faced Team Infused in the final who actually went down into the losers bracket in the quarter finals to myXMG but then faced them again in the lower finals and beat them 2-0. Going into the final FM RaiderZ were already a game up and went on to take game one but Team Infused pulled back the 2nd game. But in the 3rd game FM RaiderZ proved to just too much and went to win £850 and some Astro headsets.

CS:GO

Unfortunately only 8 teams turned up for epic.LAN this time but never mind the show must go on. Lots of good names did turned up so the competition was always going to be fierce.

1st - Team CRG
2nd - The Lovely Men
3rd - The Not so Lovely Men

All three of the teams went through the group stages with ease, Team CRG winning all their games and TLM only losing to Team CRG. Both teams met in the upper bracket final where Team CRG took it 2-1. So TLM had to fight TNSLM for the final spot in the final and it ended 2-1 in the favor of TLM. For the third time in the tournament Team CRG were playing TLM but this time it was for the tournament. Team CRG didn't need a third game this time and took the final 2-0 and took home £750.

Starcraft 2

11 players turned up for battle it out for £250 prize pool. The favorite dignitas's own blinG couldn't make it due to the stormy weather that has been hitting the UK lately so the field was wide open.

1st - FM Ourk
2nd - TLR Rotcod
3rd - Aicy
The competition jumped straight into the round of 16  and FM Ourk went through the competition with ease only dropping one map getting to the final. TLR Rotcod didn't drop a map until FM Ourk defeated him in the upper final 2-0. TLR Rotcod bounced back immediately by winning his lower final match against Aicy 2-0 and going straight back against FM Ourk. FM Ourk had a one map advantage going into the final and made that into a 2-0 lead. TLR Rodcot tried his best and got map 2 to make it 2-1 but FM Ourk was just too strong and took map 3 and tournament.  FM Ourk took home £200 and TLR Rotcod took £50.

ESL UK Dota 2 Challenge

1st - Dwayne The John Rockson
2nd - So LeJit
3rd - Reason Gaming

In the group stages nothing out of the ordinary happened both DTJR and Reason topping their respective groups. Now onto the playoffs where So LeJit and DTRJ meet in the semi's with DTRJ taking a win and moving on the the upper bracket finals against Reason. While this is all happening So LeJit is fighting their way through the losers brackets to the loser finals. Reason lose to DTRJ meaning Reason will play so LeJit in the loser brackets finals and So Lejit pull of a win to recreate the semi that happened earlier. But history repeats itself and DTRJ come out on top and claim the £1700 prize pool.

UK eSports and 2014

Snoopeh from Evil Geniuses
The UK eSports scene has been lacking behind others for quite along time now. The UK has 3 players in the LCS (Snoopeh, Impaler, Fredy122), a couple of pro Starcraft players and the odd CS:GO team that could give top teams a run for their money. The UK doesn't have any permanent eSports venues but does have the eSports bar Meltdown. What I am trying to get at is that the UK scene has some kind of base but is no where near it's potential but things are looking up.

Even though the UK scene is small it does have one very good quality, its consistent. The Insomnia Gaming Festival is now on its 51st iteration and epic.LAN is now onto its twelve event. Insomnia's 48th event at the beginning of  2013 had a prize pool mere £2500 for the LoL tournament. Last week Multiplay (Company behind Insomnia) announced that Razer will be sponsoring LoL at all 3 of this years Insomnia events with the largest guaranteed prize pool being £7500 and it will grow with more teams that enter. Its not only the prize pool that are increasing but also the event has had so much demand that they are moving to a new larger venue.

epic.LAN has also been growing with putting more cash prize tournaments with each successive LAN. For a LAN that holds only 400 people and having 4 tournament big cash prizes is very impressive. With the reappearance of ESL UK last year, they haven't been slow of the mark. They are holding a Dota 2 competition with £3000 with 2 sets of online qualifiers. ESL UK have also built a purpose built studio for casting of online events.

UK wasn't really on the international map for eSports until around last year in July when I looked on the back of a magazine and see an advert for Gfinity. Gfinity was a invitational tournament where players from came from all around the world came to London to compete for $55,000 in both LoL and CoD. Since then G2 (the second Gfinity) was only CoD, had an amazing prize pool of $70,000 and saw Twitch number improve. Also have partnered up with MLG and have been doing some qualifiers for the CoD championship. G3 is going to be even bigger with more games involved and will still be in the UK.

Perilous Gaming Rift winning i50
Sponsors are taking note of UK events. epic.LAN the LAN with only 400 people has attracted sponsorship from InWin and more notably Astro Gaming who have provided around £1400 worth of prizes to the LoL tournament at epic.TWELVE. Multiplay have now partnered up with Razer for the last 3 and the next 3 Insomnia events. Multiplay have also partnered with big brands like Mad Catz, AMD and tteSports plus the sponsors for most of i51's events haven't been announced yet.

Hopefully 2014 will bring bigger and  better tournament action from the UK scene. For the UK scene to grow it won't happen over night but with some high quality events with large amount of teams we might just see something happen.

If you want to attended an event this year check out Insomnia Gaming Festival and epic.LAN. Don't forget ESL UK do lots of tournaments and ladders.

UK eSports Weekly News 20th - 26th

League of Legends

Razer will sponsor every Insomnia LoL Tournament in 2014

Multiplay announced that Razer will be sponsoring each 3 of the Insomnia tournaments this year with some impressive prize pools. Both i51 and i53 will have a minimum prize pools £5000 but i52 with have a minimum prize pool of £7500! This is the largest one announced so far in the UK and it's only January. Insomnia is looking like the place to be this year for UK eSports.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 tournament to happen at i51

Not much details was said about the upcoming tournament but it was tweeted about and has a page on the Insomnia site. It will have a minimum of £1000 prize pool increasing with the amount of teams. I can't wait to see how much attention this gets.

Fifa 14

Animate eSports pick up old Fifa player

Animate eSports have been quite quiet in the last half of  but have kicked of 2014 with a bit of a bang. Firstly picking up a CoD 4 team 2 weeks ago and now picking up their old Fifa player David Coolledge. He will attending epic.LAN to compete in Sweetpatch.tv's Winter Championship.

MadCatz to sponsor Winter Championship at epic.LAN

Sweetpatch.tv have announced that MadCats will be providing some prizes for the winners of both of their tournaments at epic.LAN. These prizes are on top of the prize pool that hasn't been announced yet.

Don't forget about epic.LAN which is the 14th - 17th with lots of tournament action and a good old LAN. Get your tickets here.

Monday 20 January 2014

Razer upping the stake at Insomnia this year

Multiplay announced today once again Razer will be sponsoring the League of Legends tournament. The minimum prize pool for i51 is £5000 and will grow if more teams attend. But that isn't the end of it, Razer will also sponsor i52 and i53 with i52 prize pool being £7500 minimum and i53 being £5000 minimum.

i52 will have one of the largest this year and not short of last years £10,000 for a CS:GO tournament at MadCatz Birmingham. I think that people also need to keep in mind that these are only minimums so if the turn out if good then the prize pools can only increase. This can only be a good sign for the UK LoL and eSports scene.

In the nicest way possible, I think with Team Dignitas disbanding that this iseries  is going to be one of the best and most exciting with all the best in UK LoL fighting for such a large prize pool. With teams like Team Infused, fm! eSports and Perilous Gaming and any other talent that pops up in the next coming months.
